This paper presents a way of modeling the informatization process through a new approach that is called socio-cultural. Informatization is defined as the global process of information (the main resource of management and development of modern societies) possession to enhance the intellectual potential of society and its members, which will ensure further progress of the civilization. The social-cultural approach is characterized as a) social determination of society’s informatization process, b) the large-scale spread of the influence of information technologies upon all sectors of the society and resources of human activities. It provides an opportunity to examine the process of informatization (typical for modern societies) not only from the perspective of technical impact but also, more importantly, from the perspective of social impact. Within the framework of the sociocultural approach, the author identifies and analyzes the following criteria: technological, socio-political, socio-economic and cultural. These criteria are analyzed from the perspective of Armenian society.
