In human society, there has always been the division of society into two groups - men and women. Thus, gender roles of men and women have been entrenched for each individual in the society. Based on them later some generalized representations regarding the behaviour of men and women, their expected reactions and actions acceptable only for men or only for women's activities have been formed – in other words, gender stereotypes have been formed in the public consciousness.
The aim of the paper is to show how gender stereotypical ideas about men and women are manifested in English anecdotes.
