The paper touches upon the phenomenon of understanding in the context of cognitive linguistics. On the example of verbs of understanding it is shown that, similar to other abstract concepts, understanding is embodied and based upon physical experience. An attempt is made to define the process of understanding by emphasizing one of its aspects. Understanding is presented as a complex of various mental processes regularly following one another.
