The paper touches upon the issue of correlation between the structural peculiarities of absolute constructions and their functional loading. The investigation is based upon the division of the considered constructions into homo- and hetero-subject, which are characterized by consecutive and parallel connection with the main clause. This classification, as well as the principles of the functional sentence perspective serve as a basis for the semantic analysis of approximately 100 sentences from different registers.
