The paper considers one of the important problems of phraseology: the figurative description of phraseological units in comparison with Armenian. It reveals stylistic-semantic peculiarities of phrases of colloquial French (taken from fiction and dictionaries) which prove to be more colloquial and expressive than those of literary French, non-motivated and difficult to decode. The comparison with the Armenian language identifies some similarities of phraseological units, which is not the result of interference or calque; it points out some definite similarities in the lifestyle of people and their activities.
